This Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari takes you into the biodiverse Volcanoes National Park to spend time with the endangered African mountain gorillas – one of the rarest and most poignant wildlife encounters on the planet and end up enjoying the scenery view and atmosphere of Twin Lakes in the northern part of Rwanda.

Your unforgettable gorilla trekking experience is combined with a trek to see the endemic golden monkeys of Volcanoes Park, as well as a city tour of Kigali, the clean and modern capital of Rwanda. An incredible primate, rainforest and city adventure in beautiful Rwanda.

Day 1: Welcome to Rwanda!

You will be picked up by our guide/driver when you arrive at the Kigali International Airport who will transfer you to the hotel where you’ll spend the night. Distance from the airport to the hotel: 20 – 25 min.

Day 2: Kigali City tour and transfer to Musanze.

At 9 AM, our driver guide will pick you up from the hotel (after check out) and visit Kigali Genocide Memorial, Rwanda’s painful past has haunted the country for years, yet their impressive recovery story has turned them into an inspiration.  After a visit to Campaign against Genocide Museum will be done to have an information on how the genocide was stopped. This museum is located in the compound of Parliament.

After lunch, you will leave the capital city of Kigali and drive to north for about 2 hours (Musanze) for night stay. Musanze city is the closest travel hub to Volcanoes National Park, one of the best places in Africa to see mountain gorillas in the wild.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking & Cultural tour (optional).

The journey begins as early as 6:20 AM local time from the hotel to Kinigi/Musanze to trek endangered mountain gorillas. We expect arrival to RDB Office Kinigi around 6:45AM for registration, allocation into groups and briefing from the park guide. We also advise you to be in good physical condition before starting the activity because it might be tough depending on the gorilla group you are assigned. Long sleeve shirts and pants, hand gloves, rain jackets, and hiking boots are recommended for gorilla trekking. After you will have lunch and a tour to Iby’I wacu culture village

Visitors can hire a porter to help with their luggage for roughly $15. After Trekking, lunch will be served at Migano restaurant. Based on timing schedules, we can have a short visit to IBY’IWACU Community village.

Day 4: Golden monkeys trekking & Sun set boat cruise in Ruhondo lake

Our next day trip will be for golden monkeys trekking experience in Volcanoes National Park as well-one of Africa’s oldest wildlife conservation areas.

At 6:20 AM, we will drive to the park office for registration and briefing by the park guide before starting the hike.

There are 2 habituated groups of golden monkeys in the Volcanoes National Park numbering about 85. These two habituated groups live in the slopes of Mount Sabyinyo. Golden monkey trekking is special because there is no age limit. Long sleeve shirts and pants, hand gloves, rain jackets, and hiking boots are highly recommended. 

After trekking, Lunch will be served at Muhabura hotel. After lunch we will hit the road to Ruhondo lake for the sunset boat cruise and hotel check-in at My Hill Eco lodge.

Day 5:  Transfer to Kigali and Departure

After breakfast at My Hill Eco-lodge, depending on the flight time you will check out at the lodge and embark on the journey to Kigali for the departure at Kigali International Airport with a short stopover in Musanze town for lunch.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Payment Policy

• 100% payment for the gorilla trek permits is required upon confirmation (US$ 1,500. – each);
• For the other servicers, 80% is also required at the time of booking. The balance or final payment of 20% is due at arrival in Kigali after checking in at the hotel;
• If the reservation is made within 45 days prior to the arrival date, full payment is required at the time of booking;
• In case payment is done by debit / credit card, additional fee of 3% is required;
• The copy of proof of payment required and sent to the company’s business email (info@thinkotours.com) in order to confirm the booking.

Cancellation Policy

In the event that you decide to cancel a trip after booking it, certain cancellation charges will be payable to our supplier as your payments are immediately used to obtain lodging, tours and services at the best rates.

You understand and accept when booking through us that you are bound by our supplier’s terms and conditions and accordingly any policies they may have on cancellation charges.

• Cancellation fee of 25% if the trip is cancelled less than 90 days prior to the arrival;
• Cancellation fee of 50% if the trip is cancelled less than 60 days prior to the arrival;
• Cancellation fee of 100% if the trip is cancelled less than 45 days prior to the arrival;
• Payment for Gorilla Permits is nonrefundable.
