This is one of the best savannah park in Africa based on its four eco-habitats of more than 8,000 animal and bird species. The uniqueness of Akagera National Park will give you unique experience of rolling hills, lakes views, open savannah and the largest protected swamps in central Africa. Distance from Kigali to Akagera Park is about 2 ½ hours’ drive, 105.2 km. The 3 days visit will allow you to interact with the community surrounding the Park and the wildlife safaris experience

Day One: Community cultural tour.

At 9 AM, We will pick you up from your hotel and embark your journey to the East towards Akagera National Park with a stretch stopover at Imigongo café. After you will resume the trip for reaching Rutete lodge/Akagera Transit Lodge around 12 pm for check in and lunch. The distance from Kigali to Akagera Transit Lodge is about 2 hours’ drive.

At 2 PM you will start the community cultural tour. This tour will take you through the nearby local communities for you to interact with local people living around the Akagera National Park. It is the best way to spice up your safari experience before the exciting wildlife tour in the savannah plains of the Park.

This community cultural tour will take through the unique experience of milking cow, sampling honey, food preparation, exciting traditional and cultural dances, as well as making the Imigongo painting.

Day Two: Full Day Akagera game drive and Boat cruise.

At 6:30 AM, We will pick you up from Akagera Transit Lodge to the entrance of Akagera National Park for registration, and heading to the reception (3 km from the entrance) for briefing from the park guide.

We will do a full day game drive and conservation tour where you will have a chance to see giraffes, zebras, buffalos, hippos, crocodiles and bird species, mostly in the south of the park, drive towards the hills for the unique view different lakes.

At 4:30 you will do sunset boat cruise in Ihema Lake which is one of the 10 lakes located in Akagera National Park. From there you will see different species of birds, as well as some animals like hippos, crocodiles, ….

Lake Ihema is known to be second largest lake in Rwanda after lake Kivu and famous lakes in East Africa to have large concentration of hippos.

During this experience, you will learning the symbiotic relationship between hippos and crocodiles as well as aquatic birds. After this great experience you will be taken back to the hotel or lodge for dinner and a night stay.

Day Three: Full Day Akagera Wildlife experience.

This full day adventure game drive will start from southern part of the park and end at north of the park.

During this adventure, there is a chance to spot some big five animals like lions, elephants, buffalos, Rhinos and leopards. Large number of zebras and many antelopes along road sides like impalas, waterbucks, beautiful sceneries of rolling hills, plains, lakes, swamps will give the uniqueness of Akagera National Park. After reaching the park exit on the north, you will be driven to Kigali for departure.

Payment Policy

• An advance of 80% is required at the time of booking. The balance or final payment of 20% is due at arrival in Kigali after checking in at the hotel;
• If the reservation is made within 45 days prior to the arrival date, full payment is required at the time of booking;
• In case payment is done by debit / credit card, additional fee of 3% is required;
• The copy of proof of payment required and sent to the company’s business email (info@thinkotours.com) in order to confirm the booking.

Cancellation Policy

In the event that you decide to cancel a trip after booking it, certain cancellation charges will be payable to our supplier as your payments are immediately used to obtain lodging, tours and services at the best rates.

You understand and accept when booking through us that you are bound by our supplier’s terms and conditions and accordingly any policies they may have on cancellation charges.

• Cancellation fee of 25% if the trip is cancelled less than 90 days prior to the arrival;
• Cancellation fee of 50% if the trip is cancelled less than 60 days prior to the arrival;
• Cancellation fee of 100% if the trip is cancelled less than 45 days prior to the arrival;
• Payment for Gorilla Permits is nonrefundable.
