The trip to Akagera National Park will give you the great safaris experience of your life in the country of thousand hills. This is one of the best savannah park in Africa based on its four eco-habitats of more than 8,000 animal and bird species. The uniqueness of Akagera National Park will give you unique experience of rolling hills, lakes views, open savannah and the largest protected swamps in central Africa.

Boat cruise in Ihema lake will give an opportunity of spotting different species of birds and some animals like crocodile, hypos, …. The distance from Kigali to Akagera National Park is about 3 hours’ drive, 105.2 km.

Detailed 2 Days Itinerary to Akagera National Park

Day One: Community tour and night game drive

At 7:00 AM, we will pick you up from your hotel and embark your journey to Akagera National park with a quick stopover at Imigongo café for a quick breakfast (if not packed from the hotel or apartment).

You will continue to community cultural tours around akagera national park and interacting with community and experiencing their living style like milking, bee keeping cultural dances, cooking. After enjoying the community around 1PM we will go to transit lodge for lunch afterward head to akagera game lodge for check in and preparation of night game drive.

At 5:30 we will start night game drive where we will be having big chance of exploring some animals usually rare to see during day game drive because they are more active during the night, same are: hyenas, lions, and leopard. After this experience we will go for dinner and night stay at Akagera Game Lodge

Day Two: Boat cruise and full Day Akagera Wildlife experience.

After breakfast, your full-day adventure and game drive will begin at 7 AM. The day will start with a short game drive in the south of the park and continue towards the lake Ihema for doing one hour boat cruise which starts at 9 AM, where you will observe a variety of bird species and aquatic animals such as hippos and crocodiles. Lake Ihema is the second-largest lake in Rwanda, after Lake Kivu, and is renowned for its large concentration of hippos, making it one of the most famous lakes in East Africa.

During the boat cruise, you will learn about the fascinating symbiotic relationship between hippos, crocodiles, and aquatic birds.

After this experience, you will resume the game drive and throughout it you’ll have the opportunity to spot some of Africa’s “Big Five” animals, including lions, elephants, buffalo, rhinos, and leopards. Additionally, you’ll witness large herds of zebras and antelopes like impalas and waterbucks grazing along the roadsides. The beautiful landscapes of rolling hills, open plains, lakes, and swamps add to the uniqueness of Akagera National Park.

Lunch will be served at Mihindi Café, a restaurant located within the park. Afterward, you’ll continue the game drive, reaching the park’s northern exit, where you will be transferred back to Kigali.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Booking Confirmation

To confirm a booking, a deposit of 70% of the total cost of the tour is required. And the balance of 30% has to be paid 30 days before the tour start date. If the booking is being confirmed within 30 days to the tour start date, then the total tour cost should be paid in full.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Any cancellation must be done via the email of Thinko Tours and Travels, and the cancellations for paid bookings will be refunded less the cancellation fees for administration cost and other costs as below:

You understand and accept when booking through us that you are bound by our supplier’s terms and conditions and accordingly any policies they may have on cancellation charges.

  • Cancellation fee of 30% if the tour is cancelled within 30 days and above prior to the arrival date
  • Cancellation fee of 50% if the tour is cancelled between 16 and 30 days prior to the arrival date
  • Cancellation fee of 100% if the tour is cancelled within 15 days and less prior to the arrival date

The refund will be done to the same account and using the same mode which was used for the payments. Note that there is no refund in the event of a no show for the existing reservations.
