During the Kwita Izina ceremony in Rwanda, several individuals from various backgrounds named baby gorillas and expressed their thoughts on Rwanda and its conservation efforts. Here are their reflections and the names they chose for the baby gorillas:

  1. Kevin Hart – US comedian and actor, named a baby gorilla “Gakondo.” He was amazed by the gorillas in their natural habitat and commended Rwanda’s conservation efforts.
  2. Idris Elba – British actor and producer, along with his wife Sabrina Dhowre Elba, named their baby gorilla “Narame.” He praised Rwanda’s remarkable growth and status as a shining example for Africa.
  3. UK Minister Andrew Mitchell – UK’s Minister of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, named his baby gorilla “Mukundwa” and commended Rwanda for its achievements in various fields.
  4. Larry Green – A Board Trustee at the African Wildlife Foundation, named his baby gorilla “Ingoboka” (Support) to recognize the support and leadership of Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and the mutual support between the gorillas and the people of Rwanda.
  5. Prof. Őzlem Türeci – Chief Medical Officer, and Dr. Sierk Poetting, Chief Operating Officer at BioNTech SE, named their baby gorilla “Intiganda” and expressed admiration for Rwanda’s perseverance and determination.
  6. Danai Gurira – American actor, activist, and playwright, named her baby gorilla “Aguka” and highlighted Rwanda’s impressive journey to safeguard wildlife and their habitats.
  7. Audrey Azoulay – Director General of UNESCO, expressed gratitude to the people of the Northern and Western provinces of Rwanda for their support of ambitious policies in conservation.
  8. Zurab Pololikashvili – Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), named the gorilla “Inshingano” (responsibility) and pledged UNWTO’s commitment to supporting Rwanda’s tourism initiatives.
  9. Sol Campbell – Legendary Arsenal figure, named the baby gorilla “Jijuka,” symbolizing enlightenment and peace for future generations.
  10. Joa Schoendorf – A pioneer from Silicon Valley, named the baby gorilla “Uburinganire” (Gender Equality) and acknowledged Rwanda’s dedication to promoting gender equality.
  11. Anders Holch Poylsen – Chief Executive Officer of Bestseller, learned about Rwanda’s remarkable conservation journey and named his baby gorilla “Umutako.”
