The Akagera plains, characterized by their mild climate and low elevation, encompass a diverse landscape of savannah, woodland, wetland, and numerous lakes. Collaborating with African Parks, our objective is to elevate the National Park into a premier destination for an exceptional safari experience.

The vast openness of the area provides an optimal setting for observing wildlife, and we are actively working to increase the presence of the Big Five within the park over time.

Since 2010, we have significantly reduced poaching to historic lows through the implementation of measures such as a helicopter, a canine unit, and rhino trackers.

A pride of lions from South Africa has seamlessly acclimated to their new surroundings, thriving and reproducing successfully. Additionally, we have successfully reintroduced 18 eastern black rhinos into the park.

Guests may also come across buffalo, elephants, antelopes, zebras, giraffes, baboons, monkeys, an astonishing 490 bird species, and many other fascinating creatures.

Exploring Lake Ihema by boat is a standout experience during a visit to Akagera, featuring sizable groups of hippos, Nile crocodiles, and numerous waterbirds inhabiting the island at the lake’s center.

The primary means of traversing the park is by vehicle, either through a guided tour or by self-driving. The National Park offers rental vehicles, including spots for individual participation in night drives.

It is advisable to enlist the assistance of a guide, and reservations can be made directly through the park.

Accommodations within the park are an option, ranging from lodges to a northern bush camp during specific periods, as well as designated camping sites.
